It has almost become a tradition kicking off the cultural season with our own Gnawa Festival. In collaboration with our partners Multicultureel Jongerengeluid, PAARD, Korzo, Projazz en the Nationale Theater we present you a selection of the most stunning, exciting and new musical Gnawa collabs. We are extra thrilled to announce Metropole Orchestra to join the concert of Mehdi Nassouli in Amare.

Together with the Grammy-winning Metropole Orkest we present a Gnawa concert with the top talent Mehdi Nassouli and his ensemble consisting of none other than pianist Omri Mor (known from Avishai Cohen, among others) and drummer Karim Ziad (known from Joe Zawinul, Khaled, Vince and others).

The guembri player and singer is at the cradle of the rejuvenation of Gnawa music. The drummer, multi-instrumentalist and pianist fuse Gnawa, jazz and other worldly sounds on their new album ASSALA.

With the Metropole Orkest conducted by Tom Cohen, they give this evening extra depth. Mehdi Nassouli is a charismatic Moroccan guembri player with a great voice, always pushing the boundaries of genres. He has played with jazz greats like Herbie Hancock and African stars like Fatoumata Diawara and Alpha Blondy in the past and is always looking to broaden the boundaries of his music and world.

Omri Mor is an Israeli composer, pianist and arranger who plays classical music, jazz and Arab-Andalist music with equal ease. Jazz aficionados will know him as Avishai Cohen's pianist.

Drummer Karim Ziad from Algeria laid the rhythmic foundation for Cheb Mami and Cheb Khaled, literally making him the driving force behind the Rai. From here he became a drummer in the legendary jazz band The Zawinul Syndicate and in that philosophy of fusion his way of life.

Metropole Orkest, conducted by Tom Cohen, will give this evening extra depth. The orchestra has been nominated 20 times for the Grammys and won three. worked with is known for her collaborations Cohen is known for merging Arabic and Jewish music in spectacular orchestral productions.
