This concert presents Gustav Mahler’s arrangement for string orchestra of the String Quartet No.14 in D minor. Mahler intended to adapt the entire quartet, but was only able to arrange the famous second piece, the Andante con moto, whose theme is the melody of Schubert’s own song, Der Tod und das Mädchen.
