Director Jan Zoet knighted

At the Paradiso debate held on 28 August in Amsterdam, Amare’s director Jan Zoet was appointed Knight in the Order of Oranje-Nassau.

The royal honour was conferred on behalf of the King by state secretary of culture and media, Gunay Uslu, who praised Jan Zoet for his tireless efforts for the arts. She not only mentioned Jan’s particular attention for young talent and renewal, but also his ability to clearly articulate the collective voice of the entire cultural field within the domain of politics and society.

The state secretary addressed Jan Zoet in his role as retiring chair of Kunsten '92 and also as chair of the Taskforce for the cultural and creative sector. Regarding this role, Uslu commented that: “As a true fighter for the arts, your efforts have been endless, selfless, and peerless. Armed with dignity, diplomacy and persuasiveness, you always sought solutions, collaboration, and funding.” Her opening words, in which she described Jan as a jack-of-all-trades in the world of art governance and an all-round pleasant fellow, perfectly summed up all the praise bestowed on him.

We heartily congratulate Jan with this royal honour, and thank you so much for all you have done for the cultural and creative sector in the Netherlands!
