Just Peace Festival maakt van Amare podium voor vrede
June 2025, retrospect
Eye-opening dialogues, impressive exhibitions, compelling movies, music and dance. From 12 till 26 June The Hague was transformed into an open podium for peace, justice and connection. Amare was also buzzing with inspiring artworks, workshops and lectures.
While world leaders gathered in The Hague for the NATO Summit, the Just Peace Festival brought together citizens, artists, experts, and policymakers to explore the power of peace and justice. The two-week festival officially opened at Amare with the launch of the multidisciplinary art exhibition Humanity in Times of Tension, a powerful reflection on human resilience, expression, and solidarity. In the presence of Jan van Zanon (Mayor of The Hague, Prof. Annetje Ottow (President of Leiden University), and Jill Wilkinson (The Hague Humanity Hub), the opening ceremony set the tone for the broader programme of the Just Peace Festival.
In addition to the ongoing exhibition on the Kunstenplein, many other inspiring activities took place at Amare. During Hague Talks, participants challenged conventional ideas of peace and justice through powerful lectures and artistic performances, bringing conversations about new paths to peace into light. On the Tribunetrap, creatives expressed their feelings about peace through paper collage and mandala star workshops. Younger visitors also enjoyed themselves with a drawing session and tropical book reading.
