Making of: Maduro ep. #1

Maduro is a new Dutch opera about forbidden love, resistance and betrayal in times of war and the origins of Madurodam, in Amare 1 - 7 September 2022. The city opera tells the story of the young war hero George Maduro, his life, his unhappy love, his heroism and his tragic death, interwoven with the story of the origins of Madurodam: the cheerful monument with which we still commemorate him.

Maduro (in Dutch) is presented by Amare, the Residentie Orkest and De Dutch Don't Dance Division in collaboration with Kwekers in de kunst and Rabarber. More than 100 singers from The Hague and the surrounding area are involved in the city opera, in addition to professional musicians and soloists. In the first episode of 'Making Of' we take a look at the rehearsals of the project choir. What is it like to work together towards this special performance? And we talk to director Jeroen Lopes Cardozo about the special story of George Maduro that inspired this city opera.
