Making of: Maduro ep. #2

Maduro is a new opera about forbidden love, resistance and betrayal in times of war, and about the creation of the miniature city of Madurodam. Performed at Amare from 1 to 7 September, the opera tells the story of the young war hero George Maduro: about his life, his unhappy love, his heroism and his tragic death, interwoven with the story of how Madurodam came to be: the delightful monument that still keeps his name alive. 

Maduro is a joint project by Amare, the Residentie Orkest and the De Dutch Don't Dance Division, in collaboration with Kwekers in de Kunst, Rabarber and Madurodam. In this episode of the 'Making of', actors Doris Baaten (playing Bep Boon-van der Starp) and Alexander de Jong (playing George Maduro) talk about their role in the opera. We also talk to artistic director and choreographer Thom Stuart of the De Dutch Don't Dance Division, who explains how this opera translates into dance.
