On the surface, this brilliant opera tells a charming story in which Janáček brings to life the sounds of the animal world.

But beneath the surface is a psychological story that investigates questions of death and aging. The opera is performed in a new Dutch retranslation by Jibbe Willems, with a star-studded cast including famous Dutch opera singers such as Laetitia Gerards, Mark Omvlee and Denzil Delaere.
