Trio Da Kali brings a fiery and authentic tribute to the Malian song culture, with music full of cultural depth and timeless beauty. The trio consists of singer and griot diva Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté, balafon player Lassana Diabaté and bass ngoni player Mamadou Kouyaté.

Trio Da Kali combines traditional griot music with modern influences such as jazz and funk, without losing the essence. Hawa’s voice is pure and expressive, while Lassana and Mamadou create a rich, rhythmic and harmonic base. Da Kali literally means ‘to take an oath’ and that is what the trio wants to do, as it were: to make a ‘promise’ to their musical heritage, which goes back to the time of Sunjata Keita, founder of the great Malian empire. They pass on the musical heritage of the Mande, which goes back to the 13th century and the time of Sunjata Keita.

The latest album Bagola addresses current themes, such as in the song Orpaillage, which describes the impact of gold mining on Mali, and is a powerful tribute to cultural cohesion and musical innovation, which resonates universally.
