Open Call 2025: In Between Spaces
April 2025, open call
Through this open call, we call on local makers and artists to submit a proposal for the project In Between Spaces and to develop this together with Amare and Open Amare.
Amare has been organising classical music concerts that encompass music throughout the centuries. These concerts usually take place in the concert halls. In order to make that music resonate in the public space, we are looking for artists and makers who dare to translate, brew and recompose the music that sounds in the halls into works for the public space.
With this initiative, Amare wants to give passers-by and visitors, who may not be able to find their way to the Concertzaal so easily, a taste of something that is going on behind our doors. This ties in with our Open Amare programme, the free programme that we offer in our public spaces. It also inspires makers to think about the function of the Concertzaal.
What is a In Between Spaces project?
An In Between Spaces project can be anything, the artistic freedom is entirely up to you. The intention is that it will be presented in the public space of Amare a week prior to the concert, and can be experienced as a side programme at the end of that week on the evening of the concert.
The project can be organised around a concert by the RIAS Kammerchor on 19 November (magical choral music by daPalestrina and Arvo Pärt) or a concert by Claron McFadden with Cello Octet Amsterdam on 10 December (new music by composer David Lang who wrote music for the films La Grande Bellezza and Youth, among others).
