¡Hola! Let’s go Amare!

As temperatures dip beneath zero for the first time this autumn in The Hague, there’s lots of warmth to look forward to in some sizzling concerts and dance performances at Amare. And there’s also lots of fun to be had for people who don’t like to sit still!

On 12 December, Amare hosts Manuel Liñán’s dance company with their show ¡VIVA!. It is a performance in which the traditional flamenco codes are surprisingly turned upside down. “A frank and joyful expression of gay identity”, wrote the New York Times.

In 2024, Huub van der Lubbe (the singer who once fronted the hugely popular band De Dijk) plays a wonderful Don Quichot in the Dutch spoken musical Man van La Mancha. And our riveting global and jazz programme was recently enriched with perhaps the most virtuoso pianist and versatile composer in Spain today, Marco Mezquida.

Flamenco workshop and party!

Do you get itchy feet at the sound of palmas (flamenco handclapping)? Does the strumming of a flamenco guitar cause your heart to skip a beat? Then come join the flamenco workshop, offered as part of the Flamenco Biennale and prior to the ¡VIVA! performance. And stick around for the flamenco party with DJ Onno Paloma after the show.

Dance dance dance on Kunstenplein

Good to know for all who have a Spanish/Latin heart: all sorts of fun and instructive dance activities take place on Kunstenplein throughout the year. And there are recurrent social dance events celebrating styles such as latin, tango and forró.

Everyone is welcome to dance along. Whether eager to try out your first steps, or with years of experience under the belt. A social dance often starts with a dance workshop in the music style of the evening. The music is usually produced by a DJ, but at times there’s live music performed by a band, an ensemble or orchestra. Amare organises the social dance events with dance schools based in The Hague.

The social dance events are offered as part of the Open Amare programme. Participation is free!
