The Hague's skate culture takes over Amare

May 2025, retrospect

On Friday 2 and Saturday 3 May, Amare was completely immersed in The Hague's skate culture. The performance Skatepark brought an explosion of energy to the Danstheater, while the public spaces were transformed into Amare Skate Plaza.

As a memory of her own youth, Danish choreographer Mette Ingvartsen created the performance Skatepark, bringing the fun and rebellion of skate culutre into the theatre. A group of professional and local skaters from The Hague came together to showcase what their community stands for: passion, perserverance, hard work, falling down, and getting back up again!

To celebrate the arrival of this unique performance at Amare, the ground floor was transformed into the Amare Skate Plaza: a unique opportunity to finally skate through the theatre. Hips swayed to the beats of DJ Nienquepasa during the roller disco, while skaters pulled off impressive tricks on the mini ramp. Fingerstakers also had plenty of space to practie their skills in one of two fingerskateparks, with support from Custom Fingerboards and in collaboration with Sickboards. In the Skatepark Sweatshop a workshop was held with local skaters. At the Skatestore a skate jam took place, where you could also get your hands on special edition Skateplaza Amare T-shirts. Thanks to vintage clothing from Caliari's Thrift, clothing repairs by De Naaierij, and unique tattoos by Thye Houben, everyone looked fantastic. And this all with a Sniester-approved sountrack by 32Elephants and Fuzzy Teeth. There was even a mini exhibition featuring artworks by Gillian Bolton and Guinnie Tseng
