Programme
This quintet, consisting exclusively of renowned artists, will be playing pieces from their inexhaustible repertoire this Sunday afternoon. They do not make a selection in advance: it all depends on the atmosphere of the afternoon.
Bart van Lier is the most important trombonist of his generation in conventional jazz styles. He started out as a studio musician, gradually developed into a leading soloist and later became an important mentor to an entire generation of trombonists. As a jazz improviser, he combines great subtlety and sophisticated technique – which he conscientiously maintains on a daily basis – with a thirst for adventure. No two of his solos are alike, and each solo is a leap into the unknown. The jury that presented him with the Jazz in Duketown Award in 2000 said: 'His style is characterised by flowing melodies, coupled with fabulous technique. He can reach the extremes of his instrument and does so in a tasteful and artistic way, whereby technique is not the starting point, but serves the muse.
The man who always turns the place upside down with his boundless energy, dedication and passion. Wherever and whenever. Always one hundred per cent committed to making the music even more beautiful and better.
