The captivating klezmer has been a constant companion to the Jewish people throughout the diaspora. The distinctive sounds of klezmer have often blended with local musical influences. The Amsterdam Klezmer Band masterfully brings together these diverse musical traditions in a single evening featuring traditional pieces, original compositions, and captivating interludes.

Wherever the Jewish people settled in the diaspora, the captivating klezmer always traveled with them. As a result, its recognizable sounds can be heard all over the world, often blended with local musical influences. The Amsterdam Klezmer Band masterfully blends this music from all corners of the globe. In Klezmer, Music in Diaspora, the world-renowned group performs beautiful melodies that have inspired the band members. Entirely in the spirit of the klezmorim—the musicians of yesteryear who continually renewed the tradition—the band also lets you enjoy new original works. Thus, an evening awaits you featuring traditional pieces, original compositions, and captivating interludes. With this, the band once again demonstrates that it stands with one foot in tradition, the other in the present, and both feet firmly on the ground.

Jewish music has spread to many parts of the world and blended with other musical influences. Jewish musicians could be found at weddings in Eastern European countries such as Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary, as well as at the Turkish and Moroccan courts. In Eastern Europe, klezmer fused with Balkan and various Gypsy styles, and a heavenly Jewish-Arabic music emerged in Turkey, Morocco, and Algeria. There is also the Ladino style in Latin American countries. These are wonderful cross-pollinations, from which the Amsterdam Klezmer Band drew inspiration for this evening.
