Echoes of Resistance brings together four composers who give voice to the human spirit in times of oppression. You will hear fear and loss, but also a shared moral voice that resists violence and dehumanisation.

Sofia Gubaidulina Rejoice! Sonata for violin and cello
Dmitri Shostakovich String Quartet No. 8

The programme opens with Maidan Fresco by Yevhen Stankovych, a short but powerful portrait of Ukraine in resistance. The afternoon concludes with one of Dmitri Shostakovich’s most personal works: his String Quartet No. 8, in which all his feelings of fear, loss, and hope under the totalitarian Soviet regime come together. The combination of urgency and resilience, along with tender humanity, makes this a concert that will resonate long after it ends.

To get in the right mood, you can attend the tune-in session beforehand. During this session, the artists offer a personal introduction to the programme.
