Matxikadu is a powerful performance about masculinity, identity and liberation, brought to you by Lukanu Mpasi with influences from hip-hop, kuduro and Cape Verdean traditions.

Matxikadu is a performance by Cape Verdean dancer, performer and visual artist Lukanu Mpasi. 'Matxikadu' is a Cape Verdean term that refers to machismo, the way a man gives himself an attitude through violence, according to Mpasi. The piece reflects on this idea of masculinity, and the way he can free himself from these roles and expectations.

Matxikadu incorporates elements of hip-hop, Angolan electronic kuduo music and more traditional music.

Cloakroom and drink
Cloakroom and an intermission drink are included. If the event does not have an intermission, you will receive the drink afterwards.

About iAfrica Festival

The iAfrica Festival is a bold and vibrant celebration of the rich cultural heritage, creativity, and diversity of the African continent and its diaspora. Founded by Dady Kiyangi and Angélique Mbundu, the festival was created to build a dynamic cultural bridge between the African continent and the Netherlands, offering a space where African voices, stories, and artistic expressions can shine.

At the heart of iAfrica Festival is a commitment to connection — across continents, generations, and communities. Through a powerful mix of film screenings, art exhibitions, theater performances, music, dance, and storytelling, the festival brings African creativity to Dutch audiences in new and exciting ways.

By showcasing both established and emerging talents from Africa and the diaspora, iAfrica Festival not only celebrates the richness of African cultures but also encourages dialogue, exchange, and collaboration within the multicultural landscape of the Netherlands.

The festival is composed of distinct yet interconnected programs, including the iAfrica Film Festival, which highlights cinematic storytelling, and iAfrica Performing Arts, which focuses on live performance, theater, music, and dance. Each branch offers a unique lens through which to experience and engage with African and diasporic creativity.

More than just an event, iAfrica Festival is a meeting place — where cultures converge, identities are honored, and the future of African artistic expression is imagined together.
