On Saturday, January 31, the amateur senior orchestra Symphonic Seniors will come to Amare for a concert in which students from the Royal Conservatoire will perform with this orchestra. Some students will also receive a public masterclass in conducting. The program includes arrangements of pieces by Schubert, Bach, Haydn, Rimsky-Korsakov, and others. You are welcome to attend this concert.

All KC students take the Educational Skills course in their second and third years, in which they are introduced to music education. They receive methodology lessons, visit educational activities in the field, and give individual instrumental lessons for a semester. In the Ensemble Teaching course, they also work with a group of musicians; a special partner in this is The Hague symphony orchestra Symphonic Seniors, consisting of amateur musicians aged 65 and older. The orchestra was originally founded as a training orchestra for the Residentie Orkest and now functions independently under the direction of a professional conductor.

This semester, many students have worked with the Symphonic Seniors. After an initial rehearsal visit, they were allowed to conduct the orchestra themselves, accompanied by KC teachers. Students, orchestra, and conductor alike are enthusiastic about this educational collaboration.

To conclude the project, the Royal Conservatoire is organizing Symphonic Seniors in Amare on Saturday, January 31. Students will work in groups with the musicians, rehearse with the entire orchestra, and end the day with a public concert on the grandstand steps in Amare.
