Group of Friends is an energetic band led by drummer and composer Yoràn Vroom. Their music is inspired by African and Afro-Caribbean rhythms, with plenty of room for improvisation and experimentation. The result is music that resonates deeply — both emotionally and energetically.

The band is made up of passionate musicians who each bring their own style and energy, creating a dynamic interplay of vocals, movement, and theatre. Every performance is different, with unexpected musical turns that continue to surprise the audience.

"Vroom is one of the most versatile jazz drummers of the moment. He has mastered the fusion of kaseko, jazz, and West African rhythms."

NRC

Yoràn Vroom, who has been passionate about Afro-diasporic music from a young age, founded Group of Friends as a creative space for new music. After years of performing with artists such as Frank McComb, Ed Motta, Snarky Puppy, Candy Dulfer, and Benjamin Herman, he has focused fully on his own music and the artistic direction of Group of Friends since 2021. This has led to numerous concerts, two albums, and a composition commission from the BIMHUIS in Amsterdam.
