Musical wonder for young and old at the BIG BANG Festival

April 2025, retrospect

Last Sunday, 29 March, Amare was once again completely taken over by the BIG BANG Festival: a festive music festival especially for children aged 5 and over. And what a fantastic event it was! We look back on a successful edition with photos by Karen van Gilst.

So many enthusiastic music lovers, young and old alike. Visitors were not just spectators, but above all participants – exactly what BIG BANG stands for: music, action and experience. A selection from the programme: Blaaskaak had the Tribunetrap buzzing with energetic covers of well-known hits, from Doe Maar to other favourites.

In Cloudbusting by Aline Goffin, you found yourself transported to a dreamlike world set to the music of Kate Bush. Fest by Zonzo Compagnie was a musical celebration, effortlessly taking your ears from ritualistic percussion to enchanting voices, and before you knew it, everyone was dancing in ponchos. Modelo62, together with the Sound Explorers, brought music to life in a surprising way. Meanwhile, Sietse van Berkel impressed the audience in the Conservatoriumzaal with his BMX act, performing spectacular moves to cello music by Maya Fridman.

Every year, major cultural venues in Europe, Brazil and Canada are transformed into an adventurous musical labyrinth. Visitors are treated to a colourful musical programme featuring unforgettable musical performances, intriguing sound installations and rousing concerts. We’re ready for a new edition in 2027! Are you?  The next Big Bang Festival will take place on Sunday 4 April 2027
