Programme

KonCon Students x Stephanie Pan
Three composition students are venturing into writing music for an ensemble consisting of a percussionist and mezzo-sopranos. Expect original perspectives from three young creators: Yating Wang composes based on the International Phonetic Alphabet, Tobias Alvarez Di Desidero based his work on a Mexican poem, and Floris van Ballegooijen focuses on a 12th-century text about a Slavic god with four heads.

Composers: Royal Conservatory students Yating Wang, Tobias Alvarez Di Desidero, Floris van Ballegooijen

Performers: Stephanie Pan with Royal Conservatory students Ishtar Bakthali, Anat Spiegel, Michaela Riener, Yung-Tuan Ku

Time: 2:30 PM – 2:45 PM

Sirene

In 1994, for his final exam in Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Florentijn Boddendijk developed his own instrument: the Laserbass. For Sirene, he performs a duet with this instrument alongside The Hague-based soprano Kristina Bitenc in a composition inspired by a 1932 78-rpm recording of a Japanese Min’yō ballad. The song tells the story of a young geisha who has lost her love to the rough sea and is now lost in her grief—like a wandering ship.

Composer: Florentijn Boddendijk

Performers: Florentijn Boddendijk (Laserbass), Kristina Bitenc (soprano)

Time: 2:45 PM – 3:00 PM

Rhijnhof Compositions

Two composition students from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague present new compositions exploring deeply human experiences of love, loss, and memory. The first piece, *O Salutaris Hostia* by Alex Blair, is written for choir and is characterized by minimalism and clarity. The second piece by Jorn Prenger is written for two bassoons and two oboes.

Composers: Alex Blair, Jorn Prenger

Time: 3:00 PM – 3:15 PM

Open Showcase - Royal Conservatory

How do you organize a concert? That is the question young composition students were tasked with. The young composers were assigned to create their own piece and then find musicians themselves who could perform this music. In this way, Lina Zacharia and Karolis Dubalskis demonstrate how they developed their musical piece from start to finish.

Composers: Lina Zacharia, Karolis Dubalskis

Time: 3:15 – 3:30 PM
