Eb & Vloed

The sea is a major source of inspiration for many composers and choreographers, including the six choreographers featured in this program. Eb & Vloed is a highly varied performance that combines both ballet and modern dance set to a wide range of compositions. The world-renowned choreographer Nils Christe’s Four Sea Interludes is performed by DeDDDD to Benjamin Britten’s beautiful music of the same name.

Christe created this ballet in 1982 for the Nederlands Dans Theater, and it is now being performed in the Netherlands for the first time in 40 years. From artistic director Thom Stuart, one revival: his alienating, humorous choreography Zilt based on a poem by Ilja Leonard Pfeiffer, created for the Zuiderstrand in The Hague in 2017, now finally coming to theaters. In addition, two new works of his own: the duet “Seemann” to music by Nina Hagen/Apocalyptica and a piece for the entire company to Debussy’s La Mer. Rinus Sprong, co-founder of DeDDDD, returns and creates a choreography to Philip Glass’s Out of the Sea.

Resident choreographer Kiran Bonnema will give voice to a new generation, as will the young, talented dancer/choreographer Edoardo Chirico. The internationally renowned Wubkje Kuindersma—best known here for her work with the Dutch National Ballet- will also create a new piece especially for this evening.
