Podium de Nieuwe Kamer organizes sparkling Sunday afternoon jazz twice a month at the Kunstenplein. PDNK does this in collaboration with Open Amare and Brasserie Amare.

At each concert, top musicians play a live set with their own bands from 15:00 to 17:30. The concerts are free to attend thanks to the support of Open Amare and Brasserie Amare. You can remain seated and relaxed during the concert: the Brasserie team will come by to serve your drinks and snacks. During the intermission, we ask for a voluntary contribution to keep these live jazz concerts possible. Donations can be made in cash or easily via a QR code.

Programme

The warm-sounding jazz vocalist, songwriter, and improviser Elia Penrose (formerly Egle Petrosiute) presents her brand-new original compositions with an all-star band. In her music, she explores timeless values and searches for what is truly important: that which sometimes fades into the background in the ever-changing cycles of life. By embracing vulnerability and finding strength and gratitude within it, she aims to inspire others. At the same time, her music celebrates the playfulness, spontaneity, and swing of jazz. This album is a conscious choice to continue believing in love, people, nature, meaning, and connection. Love over fear. Compassion over judgment. Hope over cynicism. Starting from rhythm, her compositions unfold into rich musical stories, full of colorful harmonies and compelling melodies: refined yet accessible songs that deserve their place in the modern songbook.

Elia Penrose is based in the Netherlands and is known for her distinctive voice and her approach to music with the curiosity of an instrumentalist. Growing up in a Lithuanian family full of jazz lovers, she sang along with Antonio Carlos Jobim, João Gilberto, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Armstrong from her earliest childhood. After completing her Master's degree at the Amsterdam Conservatory, she is now a teacher at both the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and ArtEZ University of the Arts.

Additionally, she performs in a wide range of projects: from traditional and contemporary jazz to Brazilian music, fusion collectives, and virtuoso orchestral collaborations, with which she regularly travels throughout Europe and Brazil.
