With Richard Strauss and Arnold Schönberg, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble explores love: romantic longing and confrontation with harsh reality.

For the first time, the NBE presents an entire programme for winds alone. Strauss in his original instrumentation and Schönberg translated for winds by Geert van Keulen means chamber music at the highest level. It is an exciting search for new colours and for what lies hidden behind the original orchestrations. The Flemish writer Maud Vanhauwaert brings the story of Verklärte Nacht into the present. With playful, sharp-witted observations and unexpected twists, she makes love and vulnerability tangible.
