Like every child, Pinocchio starts out as a blank slate – in her case, a blank block of wood. But no sooner has she got her legs than she abandons her father Geppetto and gets into all sorts of trouble.

Mrs van der Vos, Mr Kats and Mr Das become her friends, and they have wonderful, captivating stories to tell. But can she trust these friends? She is constantly faced with a choice: have fun and live a carefree life, or be sensible and work hard? Tell a tall tale or speak the ugly truth? Pinocchio learns the benefits of lying from her friends, until she realises that she, too, is being taken for a ride.
