Nextleveldance presents: Bachata City Night

Born in the poor outskirts of Santo Domingo in the 1960s, Bachata was long considered music of the lower class and ignored by mainstream media. It wasn't until the 1990s that the style won over the general public. The typical Bachata band consists of a lead guitar (requinto), rhythm guitar, bass guitar, bongos, maracas, and güiro. Bachata is danced in couples, with a characteristic hip movement on the fourth beat. There are various styles - from the traditional Dominican style to the more romantic, sensual variant - but the connection with the partner and the feel for the music are always central.

Programme

19:00–20.00 | Beginners workshop: Bachata (no dance experience or partner required)
20:00-23:00 | Social Dance

Every month at Bachata City Night, you can discover a different style of Bachata.

At the Kunstenplein in Amare, lively social dance evenings are regularly organised in a variety of dance styles, such as Latin, West Coast Swing and Kizomba. Everyone is welcome to join in—whether you’re curious about a new style or have been hitting the dance floor for years. Each social dance evening begins with a workshop tailored to the style of the evening.

This year, Nextleveldance is organising a series of Bachata evenings in collaboration with Amare and various dance schools in The Hague. The music is provided by a DJ, and sometimes you can even enjoy live music from a band. Come along, join in the dancing and discover how much fun it is to move together!
