Hague Hoppers presents: Social Swing Dance


Swing emerged in the United States in the 1920s and 1930s, closely tied to the rise of jazz music and the big bands. In the African American communities of Harlem, the Lindy Hop developed as the original form of what would later give rise to many Swing variants, including Jive, West Coast Swing, and Balboa. Swing is danced in couples, with a shared sense of rhythm and joy. Characteristic features are the bouncy basic step, the room for improvisation, and the playful interplay between partners.

At the Kunstenplein in Amare, lively social dance evenings are regularly organised in a variety of dance styles, such as Latin, West Coast Swing and Kizomba. Everyone is welcome to join in—whether you’re curious about a new style or have been hitting the dance floor for years. Each social dance evening begins with a workshop tailored to the style of the evening.

Every second or third Thursday of the month, swing dance school Hague Hoppers organizes a social dance event with a live band. Admission is free. Feel the rhythm, connect with others, and enjoy the soulful sounds of live jazz music while you dance the night away. Everyone is welcome, whether you are an experienced dancer, a jazz music enthusiast, or just want to have fun. Bring your friends and show off your best dance moves! Prior to the social dance, Hague Hoppers offers a free swing dance workshop suitable for beginners. See you on the dance floor!
