In The Cat Who Wanted to Change Her Tale, dance, puppetry and projections come together in an imaginative performance for the whole family. Based on a traditional Sanskrit tale, the performance follows the Cat, the Owl, the Lizard and the Mouse, who live among the roots of a Banyan tree. A playful and layered story about friendship, trust and the question of whether you can escape the role others have given you.

The Cat, the Owl, the Lizard and the Mouse live among the roots of a Banyan tree. They are not exactly friends: predator and prey is closer to the truth. Still, they manage to coexist until the Cat is caught in a hunter’s trap. Only the Mouse can save her, on the condition that the Cat promises never to eat her.

A promise.
An attempt at friendship.
And a mistrust that does not simply disappear.

In this dance-puppet show by Thomas Noone Dance, the four animals are performed as puppets, each manipulated by a dedicated dancer. But very quickly, you forget that you are watching puppets at all. Through the precision of the performers, the Cat, the Owl, the Lizard and the Mouse are given their own breath, character and will. Dance, animation and physical theatre come together in a magical world of roots, projections and imagination.

That is what gives the story its deeper resonance. Behind the animals lie recognisably human questions about trust, fear, instinct and the possibility of change. Just as the Cat is about to catch the Lizard, she steps out of the story. Why does she always have to be the villain? That question changes everything. The animals begin to talk: about rules, instinct, change and the courage to look differently.

The Cat Who Wanted to Change Her Tale is a lively family performance about trust, courage and the power to rewrite your own story.
