About Capoeira

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that blends elements of dance, acrobatics, music, and self-defense. Developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil during the 16th century, it was a way to resist oppression while disguising combat training as a playful dance. Characterized by fluid movements, kicks, sweeps, and dodges, capoeira is performed in a circular formation called a *roda*, accompanied by traditional music and instruments like the *berimbau*. Practitioners, known as *capoeiristas*, engage in a rhythmic exchange of attacks and evasions, emphasizing agility, strategy, and creativity. Today, capoeira is practiced worldwide as a symbol of cultural heritage, physical fitness, and community.
