The Musica Symphony Orchestra opens the new year with a sparkling winter concert at Amare. Conducted by Pim Cuijpers, the orchestra presents a programme full of Slavic passion and Scandinavian sonic splendour, with works by Mussorgsky, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky.

Programme

Moessorgski Prelude uit Chovansjtsjina
Sibelius Vioolconcert
Tsjaikovski Symfonie nr. 4

The programme centres on Jean Sibelius' enchanting violin concerto, performed by the young, highly acclaimed violinist Niek Baar. It also features Mussorgsky's impressive Prelude from Khovanshchina and Tchaikovsky's compelling Fourth Symphony.

The Musica Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1910 by a group of enthusiastic amateur musicians and is one of the oldest amateur orchestras in The Hague. The orchestra has over seventy members of various nationalities and gives several concert series each year in The Hague and the surrounding area.

Musica also likes to provide a platform for young, talented soloists. In the past, Lisa Jacobs, Nicola Meeuwsen, Laetitia Gerards, Jeannette van Schaik, Florian Verweij and Hawijch Elders, among others, have worked with the orchestra.
