Become part of the music at In Between Spaces

November 2025, news

The project of Katherine Teng will be postponed to a later date.

A few months ago, we invited local makers and artists to submit proposals for a project as part of In Between Spaces. We are now proud to present the work of Katherine Ching-Fang Teng, an immersive audiovisual journey into polyphony and participation.

Amare has been organising classical music concerts that encompass music throughout the centuries. With the In Between Spaces initiative we want to give passers-by and visitors, who may not be able to find their way to these concerts in the Concertzaal so easily, a taste of something that is going on behind our doors. That’s why composer Katherine Ching-Fang Teng now brings her work into Amare’s public spaces as part of Open Amare.

In connection with the concert by Claron McFadden and Cello Octet Amsterdam, Katherine has created an interactive installation followed by a live performance. Her In Between Spaces project invites you not just to listen but to become part of the music itself. She weaves centuries-old fragments of polyphonic music together with living, breathing visuals by Niccolò Angioni, creating a space where sight and sound resonate as one.

Through the glow of colour and the pulse of light, the experience transforms listening into participation: your presence, your touch, even the movements of your phone contribute to the unfolding soundscape. Together with artists Sheng-Chiun Lin (cello) and Te-Ping Teng (percussion), the audience co-creates a shared sonic world. A place where ancient melodies meet contemporary imagination, and where new music is no longer distant, but deeply human.

For this project, Katherine will be artist in residence at Amare for a week. Her interactive installation will be on view in our public spaces from 3 to 10 December, with a concluding live performance on 10 December.
