Festival de Bruiserij

Festival De Bruiserij shows that art is for everyone, with or without a disability

June 2026, News

On Sunday, June 28, Open Amare will come to life during the second edition of Festival De Bruiserij. This free arts festival brings together creators, performers, and visitors - with and without disabilities - in a program featuring music, dance, theater, workshops, and visual arts.

Between 80,000 and 100,000 residents of The Hague have a disability. Festival De Bruiserij is not only for these people, but also created by them. KOO Kunstonderwijs and De Bruiserij, the organization behind the festival, are bringing their shared mission to life through this event by creating a festival experience in which everyone can actively participate, with or without a disability.

Event host Jurre Geluk will present a program featuring performances by professional and amateur artists. Compagnie Tiuri will present a preview of *Please Hold My Hand*, a production that was recently awarded five stars by *de Volkskrant*. The program also includes Theatergroep Fenix, My Breath My Music, and Dance Unlimited, among others.

Visitors can also participate in workshops and interactive installations. For example, Theatergroep Fenix will demonstrate how performing arts can be accessible to a diverse range of participants, and My Breath My Music will offer the opportunity to try out adapted electronic instruments developed for people with severe physical or multiple disabilities. Visual arts will also be featured during the festival. Artists and creators will present their work at various locations throughout Amare. The open stage and exhibition space offer participants of all skill levels the opportunity to showcase their work to the public.

Festival De Bruiserij is organized with a focus on accessibility. The venue is wheelchair-accessible, visitors can use a quiet room, and various program elements are offered as Relaxed Performances.

Admission is free. Check out the full program on the event page and sign up!
