In this series, dedicated especially to O18c, we show that classical music is very much of the present. With brilliant soloists and musically outstanding performances, O18c looks back in time with a forward-looking perspective. In 2027, 200 years after his death, Beethoven still has a powerful and indelible voice. Emily Mayer, a composer and conductor from the same period, does not yet. That is why O18c is putting her on the musical map with great enthusiasm. Because even in the past, there is something new to discover! With Anna Prohaska and Ian Bostridge, international stars will grace the Concert Hall in a lightly staged production of Monteverdi’s Il Combattimento by Sommer Ulrichson. And the audience will be treated to a lesson in French chaos and the roots of the symphony as a classical form. Hopefully, all that chaos will, after all, always lead to something new and flourishing—O18c should know.
