Inspired by the iconic boxing match The Rumble in the Jungle between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman (1974), À nos combats presents a breathtaking performance between a dancer and a boxer in a boxing-ring setting.

A group of 60 amateurs forms the audience in this remake of the historic match. Led by the irresistible master of ceremonies, radio host Soro Solo, and the driving beats of Sega Seck, you are completely swept up in the tension of the contest.

In this performance, Salia Sanou also turns his attention to the role of women in combat sports. In doing so, he seeks to shift perceptions of the sport and broaden the debate around it. Fluidity, inventive movement, strength and vulnerability set the rhythm of the fight.

Hand-to-hand combat, footwork, hook, dodge, uppercut — the physical commitment is total, intense and at times violent, fuelling the fervour of the audience.

Is boxing a brutal sport or a noble one?

Can it be a way of learning our limits — and of restraining the violence in our society?

À nos combats is raw, rhythmic, political and personal. Don’t miss this powerful performance.
