Residentie Orkest & Nederlands Dans Theater
Fri 20 Nov / Multiple times
Fri 20 Nov ’26

The Residentie Orkest and Nederlands Dans Theater are celebrating five years of Amare with two world premieres, world-class dance, a brass band and Stravinsky’s The Firebird.

Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) and the Residentie Orkest (RO) are celebrating five years of Amare with a special programme entitled Celebrating 5 years of Amare. You’ll be taken on a journey through the diverse dance styles of Hofesh Shechter and Marne van Opstal & Imre van Opstal, and the musical styles of Paul Dukas, Igor Stravinsky, Max Richter and Bianca Bongers. At the same time, you’ll discover the Amare building; the programme takes place in the Concert Hall, the Dance Theatre and the Public Foyers.

How does it work?
There are two different routes. You buy a ticket that starts in either the Dance Theatre or the Concert Hall; this is stated on your ticket. You start in the relevant venue and move to the other one after the interval, so that you can enjoy the full programme. You will have a seat in each venue, as indicated on your ticket. During the interval, you can enjoy music and dance by OFFprojects & the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw at various locations.

NDT World Premiere
In the Dance Theatre, you will experience a raw and daring world premiere by choreographer Hofesh Shechter for NDT 1. Shechter is known for works that lay bare what lies dormant beneath the surface, both within ourselves and in the world around us. The friction between identity, the perception of our mind and of our body often forms a common thread. In his new work for NDT 1, dreamlike scenes unfold alongside sudden flashes of reality, with the dancers pushing their physical limits. “Your mind is a flickering light that has forgotten its source, where thoughts collide and contradict one another,” says Shechter. Grand yet intimate, full of intense physical abandon and pulsating music, this work promises to be a surreal journey that will completely sweep you away.

NDT and the Residentie Orkest
In the Concert Hall, you will experience a unique event in honour of five years of Amare: a one-off encounter between music and contemporary dance that you won’t want to miss. The Residentie Orkest, conducted by Chloé Albaret and Benjamin Behrends present a raw and emotional dialogue between dance and music, which can only be experienced on this evening.

Next: a brand-new piece by Dutch composer Bianca Bongers. She brings the sensory echoes of Amare’s spaces to life. The journey ultimately concludes with Stravinsky’s sublime suite from The Firebird. In short, an evening full of colour, drama and rhythmic brilliance.
