Musicweb-international

Travel with us to the nineteenth century, when composers discovered their musical roots and were inspired by folk melodies that had echoed for centuries through the mountainous Balkans. Rhythmic richness, daring harmonies and ancient modes resonate in works by Bartók, Enescu and Kodály. Enescu had a great fascination with Romani violin playing. His virtuosic Romanian Rhapsody receives a breathtaking performance from Hawijch Elders. Alongside Bartók's monumental Divertimento, lesser-known gems by Beliczay and the famous conductor Weingartner will also be heard.
