Lonneke stands in the spotlight with her violin: one voice, one instrument, with a world of colours. In this solo programme, the violin is not only the instrument at the centre, but a laboratory for new ideas, new sounds and new stories. Every note you hear is a direct voice from our time - music still warm from the hands that wrote or arranged it.

Lonneke van Straalen
Lonneke is one of the most unconventional and enterprising violinists of our time. In 2017, she founded the collective Pynarello to make the experience of classical music more playful, accessible and adventurous. That same year, she received the Prix Madeleine Margot, an award for proven artistic excellence, in which she was praised for connecting people and stretching musical boundaries. In 2023, the collective Pynarello won De Ovatie, the award for the most impressive live classical music performance, presented by the Association of Theatre and Concert Hall Directors.

With her musical brewery TheDutchBrewhouse, founded in 2024, she enters into unexpected liaisons with artists, writers, composers and musicians. A place where ideas come together, connection grows into something new, and impact is created that reaches beyond art alone. She is a chamber musician and guest concertmaster with various ensembles and orchestras in and outside the Netherlands. Since 2015, Lonneke has been leader of the Aurora Orchestra in London. She shares all her experience, and her love of music and violin playing, with pupils and students during lessons and mentoring sessions.

Gérard Corbiau’s acclaimed film presents lavish stagings of Baroque opera masterpieces, meticulously crafted down to the finest detail, while at the same time offering a moving portrait of Farinelli’s extraordinary and often tragic life. The exquisite beauty of the voice that made Farinelli the most sought-after singer of his time, and the horrific trauma of the castration that created that voice, form the powerful poetic contrast at the heart of the film.

Farinelli won a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film as well as one for production design, thanks to its precise and opulent reconstructions of Baroque opera. The film was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards. Its soundtrack—featuring music by many 18th-century masters such as Handel, Vivaldi, Monteverdi and Porpora—was awarded a César for Best Music.
