With Hansel & Gretel on the Run!, Opera Rebels, in collaboration with Opera2Day and Studio Youkali, presents an enchanting, musical family opera for everyone aged 8 and over! Accompanied by an ensemble of thirteen musicians on stage, narrator Nils Verkooijen and four singers (including Ana-Carmen Balestra and Roza Herwig), an exciting adventure based on the famous fairy tale (but with a twist) unfolds to the magical music of Humperdinck. This time, there is no fairy-tale forest, but a world that has suddenly been turned upside down.

Hansel and Gretel are children on the run, searching for safety, food and a foothold. When Hansel and Gretel find themselves in a tempting world of sweets full of sweet promises, everything seems possible. But danger lurks behind the glamour… Between dream and reality, the fairy tale is told with humour and imagination in a new Dutch libretto by Krekel Prize winner Jibbe Willems. A spectacular opera experience for young and old alike, featuring a timeless story of courage and the indispensable power of togetherness. Will Hansel and Gretel manage to defeat the witch?
