The sixth edition of Keti Koti / Kibra Kadena, organized by The Black Hague Experience, is centered around the theme Homegrown. This theme celebrates what grows right here in The Hague: within families, entrepreneurship, youth initiatives, knowledge transfer, and intergenerational connections. With workshops, talks, live music, children’s activities, a Black-Owned Business Market, and from 1 PM on 1,000 free heri heri meals during Free Heri Heri For All, Amare will be a place for a day of remembrance, learning, connection, and celebration. Because on this day, we not only commemorate the abolition of slavery, but we also reflect on the legacies of the past and the future we are shaping together.

The evening concludes with a festive celebration featuring live performances, dance, and music by local and Caribbean artists.

Homegrown Stage

The Homegrown Stage forms the heart of Keti Koti / Kibra Kadena 2026. Here, conversations, art, music, storytelling, and social themes converge around the question of what we pass on to future generations. With program segments such as Poetry & Pancakes, Young Stories, and a live podcast by Vrouwen Met Saus, the focus is on identity, heritage, opportunities, freedom, and connection. Young people, entrepreneurs, professionals, and cultural creators from The Hague come together here to shape a program that connects history, identity, and the future.

Black Men Don’t Talk

How do upbringing, social experiences, and personal challenges influence our self-image, our relationships, and the way we view ourselves? During five interactive sessions led by various speakers and social organizations, topics such as upbringing, masculinity, mental health, and intergenerational patterns within Black communities will be discussed. The sessions offer visitors a space for connection, recognition, and deeper reflection.

Kids Corner

In the Kids Corner, children and families discover Surinamese and Caribbean heritage in a playful way. Visitors are introduced to traditional objects and customs, participate in creative activities, and enjoy performances and entertainment. Also on display is the video installation “Hidden Stories,” which provides insight into The Hague’s colonial past and its impact on the present.

Black-Owned Business Market

The Black-Owned Business Market takes place on Kunstenplein, organized by The Black Hague Experience and The Africa Cultural Promotion Center. Here, visitors meet entrepreneurs and organizations with an Afro-descendant background and discover a wide range of offerings, including books, art, fashion, cultural publications, beauty products, artisanal goods, and Surinamese specialties. The market showcases how culture, heritage, and entrepreneurship come together and provides a space for knowledge exchange, interaction, and connection.

Keti Koti/Kibra Kadena 2026 is free to attend and invites everyone to be part of this shared cultural experience.

About The Black Hague Experience
For over 5 years, The Black Hague Experience has been a meeting point for Black and Caribbean entrepreneurship in The Hague. TBHE is a platform based in The Hague that highlights the stories, strength, and creativity of the Black community. The initiative is dedicated to fostering connections, raising awareness, commemorating the history of slavery, and strengthening the Afro-diaspora in the city. Through art, music, entrepreneurship, education, and community events, they bring people together and provide a platform for Black creators, entrepreneurs, young people, and key community leaders. They stand for inclusion, pride, representation, and dialogue—built by, for, and with the Afro-community in The Hague. In 2023, the organization was nominated for the Hague Volunteer Awards.

The 6th edition of Keti Koti/Kibra Kadena The Hague 2026 is made possible in part by the City of The Hague, Amare, KIP Republic with Free Heri Heri For All, and the entrepreneurs, key figures, and volunteers of The Black Hague Experience.
