As part of Rewire 2026, the sixth edition, titled Proximity Music: The Ongoing Hum, will take place from 9 to 12 April.

Proximity Music is a collaborative exhibition programme, an initiative of iii and Rewire. The programme aims to connect sound, architecture and technology through intimate sensory experiences

The Ongoing Hum focuses on attuning to the seemingly inaudible rhythms, vibrations and radiations present in our environment. The exhibition brings together various instruments and compositions that encourage new ways of perceiving our everyday surroundings: from tapping into the electricity of cyanobacteria and sensing the heartbeats of strangers to the barely audible frequencies resonating in ceramic vessels and immersion in a hypnotic, humming soundscape. By attuning to the hidden rhythms of the physical world, this exhibition transforms materials into portals by encouraging us to listen beyond what our ears can hear.

The installations in The Ongoing Hum emphasise physicality as an essential approach to finding wonder in the seemingly trivial. By delving deeply into the properties of materials and the knowledge they embody, the works engage the whole body and its relationship with the environment. In this way, they create moments of reflection and sensitivity. In an age characterised by instant gratification, digital polarisation and the numbing effects of the screen, these works call for slowness, attention and physical presence.

De Cœur En Choeurs (2026)
Anaïs Lossouarn

Anaïs Lossouarn composes sounds with stones, stroking them in a repetitive motion so they resonate, much like playing the rims of water glasses. As you touch the stones in the installation, you listen to the tones of these stone harps. The suspended stone fragments vibrate with the heartbeats of those who have listened before you - a bridge to the invisible rhythms and inner echoes of these strangers. Functioning as a kind of metronome, the vibrations subtly influence the rhythm of your own heartbeat, connecting your body to theirs.

Anaïs Lossouarn aims to create spaces that invite people to slow down and take time to experience something unfamiliar yet gentle. She explores resonance and the relationships between matter and the living, how vibrations travel, connect, and transform both bodies and materials, and how listening can become a shared, relational experience. By amplifying and recontextualising what already exists, she wants to put aside the feeling of "already knowing" and open space for curiosity. Lossouarn Lena developed De Cœur En Choeurs during a residency at iii.
