Domenico Scarlatti's Stabat Mater is a unique virtuoso work for ten solo voices and basso continuo, written during his time in Rome.

In this programme, Voces Suaves combines Scarlatti's moving polyphonic masterpiece with sensitively composed prayers to the Holy Virgin Mary by Alessandro Melani, a Roman composer who is now largely unknown. The entire selection of these beautiful Baroque works from Rome revolves around the complex figure of the Virgin Mary.
