In Summer of 1788, Kammerorchester Basel, Kristian Bezuidenhout and Isabelle Faust dive into the blazing creative world of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - a summer that changed music history forever.

Programme

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Sonata for Violin & Fortepiano in G major, K. 379
Joseph Martin Kraus Overture to Olympie
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Violin Concerto No. 2 in D major, K. 211
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Rondo K 373
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550

The title refers to the extraordinary summer of 1788, when Mozart, despite severe financial difficulties, composed his last three symphonies within just a few weeks, including the stormy Symphony No. 40 in G minor. Around this masterpiece unfolds a rich palette: the intimate Sonata KV 379, the elegant Second Violin Concerto and the sparkling Rondo KV 373. The overture to Olympie by Joseph Martin Kraus sets a theatrical tone. The result is an evening full of urgency, refinement and boundless imagination.
