In this adventurous new programme, Maya Fridman returns to the essence: sound, breath and the movement of time, creating a continuous musical ritual between past and future.

Programme

Johann Sebastian Bach Cellosuites
Catherine Lamb The Additive Arrow
Missy Mazzoli Salt

Bach's Cello Suites
The programme begins with Maya's own vision of Bach's Cello Suites Nos. 1, 2 and 3, for electric cello and electronics, because, as Maya says, Bach's music is not merely heritage, but living material. The result is an intimate dialogue between Baroque lines and an immersive, enveloping sound world. Between these Bach fragments, sound artist Wouter Snoei interweaves subtle electronic interventions like small cracks in time through which new light falls.

Catherine Lamb - The Additive Arrow
In The Additive Arrow, everything revolves around the pure sound of instruments and the subtle shades of colour in between. With great precision, Lamb directs how sounds develop on the spot with the help of electronics and the acoustic properties of the space itself. The piece is inspired by the art and ideas of Paul Klee, visual artist and thinker.

Cloakroom and drink
Cloakroom and an intermission drink are included. If the event does not have an intermission, you will receive the drink afterwards.

Missy Mazzoli – Salt
Salt is a powerful mini-opera for mezzo-soprano (Diana van der Bent), electric cello (Maya Fridman), and electronics (Wouter Snoei), based on texts by screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson. The piece unfolds like a conversation across time: Lot’s wife speaking from her “prison of salt” to the future. During the performance, this petrified voice is revealed—vulnerable, ancient, and at the same time fiercely present. The work forms an almost ceremonial journey in which Bach, Lamb, and Mazzoli enter into dialogue through Maya’s own ritualistic musical language. An invitation to let go of time, to listen to what emerges, and to be carried into a world where every sound holds meaning.
