Take a look behind the scenes of Romeo + Juliet

February 2026, video

In Romeo + Juliet, Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau reinterprets the legendary tragedy that is etched into our collective memory. Take a look behind the scenes and discover how movement and costumes come together in a powerful whole, which can be admired at Amare on 12 and 13 March

Everyone knows Shakespeare’s tragic tale of the forbidden love between Juliet Capulet and Romeo Montague. Morau abandons the traditional storyline and transforms it into an associative vision. Performed by Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, this dance production unfolds in a dark world where violence is so pervasive that total destruction seems inevitable. His meticulously choreographed language of movement requires deep synchronization between the dancers, who move almost as a single organism. Morau drew inspiration from Sergei Prokofiev’s score, which masterfully combines sensual lyricism with an ominous undertone.
