For a programmer, every season is filled with special concerts, but which ones really stand out? Saskia Lankhoorn, classical music programmer at Amare, shares her five personal favorites for the 26/27 season and explains why you won’t want to miss them.
🔸 The Desert Music - Sat, Oct. 4
Amare sings! The Desert Music brings the Netherlands Chamber Choir together with ensembles from The Hague and students from the Royal Conservatory in the Concert Hall. With a surprising opening act by the Haags Toonkunstkoor and a NKK Sing-Along during the day that’s open to everyone, this will be a day centered on the power of singing together.
🔸 Philip Glass – Waiting for the Barbarians - Fri, Oct. 31
An impressive collaboration between Reisopera and Club Guy & Roni. This opera, set to music by the iconic founder of minimal music, Philip Glass, poses a timely question: what does it mean to be a good person? A poignant story about power and resistance.
🔸 Christmas Cheer – Tue, Dec. 23
Together with Amare’s artist-in-residence Elisabeth Hetherington, the B’Rock Orchestra presents an atmospheric Christmas concert filled with festive and contemplative music by composers including Handel and Arvo Pärt. A special musical evening during the Christmas season.
🔸 Love Rewritten – Sat, Jan 24
Continue to follow artist-in-residence Elisabeth Hetherington on her musical journey and discover her versatility in this special program featuring spoken-word artist Daniëlle Zawadi. Music by Robert Schumann, performed in the language of our time, in collaboration with Writers Unlimited.
🔸 Prometheus – The Ignition of the World - Thu, May 7
During the week of May 4 and 5, the adventurous violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaya will visit Amare with a new concert concept in which she explores themes such as rebellion, enlightenment, and the quest for knowledge. What does humanity do with the power of fire, and how do we avoid self-destruction? Beethoven’s Eroica serves as the foundation and is ingeniously reimagined by Kopatchinskaya. A surprising lighting design further stokes the fire.
