With Le Cantique des Cantiques by Daniel-Lesur, the Netherlands Chamber Choir under the direction of Swedish conductor Sofi Jeannin presents one of the highlights of choral music. It is based on the biblical Song of Songs, in which a man and a woman sing of their love and longing and praise each other's beauty. This timeless work is not about a narrative, but about the play of desire and fulfilment, distance and reunion.

Programme

Rob Zuidam The Great Alone
Jean-Yves Daniel-Lesur Le Cantique des Cantiques

Before that, you will hear The Great Alone, a major new choral work composed especially for tonight by the Dutch composer Rob Zuidam. Drawing on a variety of sources, he explores the feeling of profound cosmic loneliness, captured by Fermi in the words. 'But where is everybody?'. An evening that takes you from the deepest loneliness to the celebration of the symbiotic love between two people.
