With a large choir and orchestra, two top soloists and our passionate chief conductor, prepare to be overwhelmed by Mahler’s grand Second Symphony. For the first time ever in Amare!

Programme

Mahler/Stein Symfonie nr. 2 ‘Auferstehung’

Even in Erwin Stein’s ‘smaller’ version, Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony is grandiose. A monumental work about death, liberation and resurrection. Piercing and poignant when vocalising grief and when the choir launches into the ‘resurrection’ passage; overwhelming when the orchestra and singers build up to the climax with battering percussion, bombastic brass, and a grand choir finale.

The Residentie Orkest instrumentation is of course of the very best class. With her light and crystal clear voice, soprano Ruby Hughes has won many awards. The Dutch mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn travelled with world with Bernard Haitink. And with the Laurens Symfonisch, Amare once again welcomes one of the best choirs in the Netherlands. With the Residentie Orkest’s own chief conductor Anja Bihlmaier presiding, this is a Mahler concert you do not want to miss.
