Rossini’s compositie is zonder twijfel een van de populairste werken ooit geschreven.

"Is it really sacred music or have I made sacrilegious music? I was born for opera buffa, as you know. So be blessed and grant me paradise." Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Nederlands Kamerkoor, conducted by artistic director Candida Thompson, meet in this compelling 19th-century work, a subdued mass full of drama and stillness, grand gestures and moving moments, in a completely new version for string orchestra, harmonium and chamber choir.
