Social Dance: Forró

Join us on this Forró dance evening! This event is free to enter. We start with a workshop, afterwards everyone can dance freely.

Born out of the ethnicity mix in the Northeast of Brazil in the 1940’s, and popularized first in rural areas, Forró soon conquered space and became the most popular social dance in Brazil. The typical Forró band is composed of a zabumba, an accordion and a triangle. Forró is danced in pairs, in a closed embrace. Many open steps are also possible but the most important is the comfort of your partner in dance. Participating in this dance evening is free of charge.

Op het Kunstenplein in Amare worden regelmatig gezellige social dances georganiseerd, in verschillende dansstijlen zoals latin, tango en lindy hop. Op deze avonden is iedereen welkom om mee te dansen, of je nu voor het eerst een dansstijl komt uitproberen of al jaren op de dansvloer staat. Een social dance begint vaak met een dansworkshop in een stijl die aansluit bij de muziek van de avond. De muziek wordt verzorgd door een DJ, soms is er zelfs live muziek verzorgd door een band, ensemble of orkest. De social dances organiseert Amare samen met dansscholen uit Den Haag.
