Discover concerts in Nieuwe Kerk
In addition to the concerts in Amare’s brand new halls, the 24/25 season also offers concerts in the age-old Nieuwe Kerk.
There is much to enjoy and appreciate in this splendid ‘fifth auditorium’, just across the road from Amare. With its rich history and superb acoustic qualities, Nieuwe Kerk has inspired musicians, artists and visitors throughout the centuries. It offers an unparallelled platform for the many ensembles and festivals of The Hague. In 24/25, we are again teaming up with our partners to offer a wonderful programme here. We thereby continue our tradition in hosting top-notch musicians and ensembles, from both within and outside the country. Examples are the Zehetmair Quartet, alt violinist Lawrence Power, the Ragazze Quartet and Calefax.
Programme themes
This season we are introducing programme themes to create a better overview of what’s on offer in Nieuwe Kerk. A brief look ahead:
Boventoon
Representing this programme theme are concerts and productions by the Matangi Quartet, Ciconia Consort, New European Ensemble, Festival Dag In de Branding, Ensemble Klang, Festival Klassiek achter de Duinen, HIIIT (formerly Slagwerk Den Haag), and several partners.
NK Next Generation
For this theme we are collaborating with the Royal Conservatoire to shine a spotlight on exciting new talents from The Hague, as well as on contemporary makers. This is your opportunity to discover The Counterpoints (innovators in baroque), Soundwave Collective, The Hague’s clarinet virtuoso Jelmer de Moed (with friends), and young cello players offering a masterclass concert in collaboration with Amare’s artist in residence, Jean-Guihen Queyras.
Donder Dagen
In autumn, we are organising three occasions (indeed on ‘donderdagen’, that is, Thursdays), where distinctive and remarkable programmes will raise the roof in various unexpected ways.
Orgel Anders
Obviously, the season wouldn’t be complete without an extensive and fascinating series of organ concerts. After a thorough restoration, the Nieuwe Kerk’s historic Duyschot/Witte organ sounds (and looks) better than ever. The city’s organist Geerten van de Wetering can’t wait to demonstrate it to you!
Lunch concerts
As part of the NK Next Generation theme, visitors can enjoy a series of lunch concerts, free of charge. It is an initiative by Stichting de Nieuwe Kerk to throw open the church doors more frequently. Drop in to enjoy short performances on the organ or by students of the Royal Conservatoire!
